Today, each one of us has a desire to “be filled with goodness in our lives.” No one likes evil things. Only our Lord God can give us the good things that we desire for in our lives. But to whom will He give this great blessing?
He will give it only to those who walk righteously in His sight. Jehoshaphat was a Jewish King who sought the Lord faithfully and walked in the sight of the Lord. When many kings came to war against him, he could claim victory in all the battles because he sought the Lord with a clean and pure heart and the Lord Himself helped him to win. The Lord also gave him many good things in his life.
Once there was a couple. Though they held fast to the Lord, they were always in want. Their relatives who did not know the love of the Lord and had a higher standard of living spoke ill of this poor couple. Yet, this couple was not perturbed by the ill-will shown by their relatives. Instead, they always looked at the Lord, sought Him and walked in His ways. The Lord God Almighty blessed them abundantly, gave them all the good things of life and honoured them. In the end, those who criticized them were humbled.
SCRIPTURE to LIFE
Integrity of the heart is a close counterpart to uprightness. An upright person will walk in godly fear and avoid all crooked paths. When you lead a life pleasing in God’s sight, you will also receive the good things that God has in store for you. Even if you have to go through hardships, continue to follow God’s statutes faithfully, and He will grant you victory. He will lift you from your hard-pressed situation and will fulfill your needs. He will bless you, and you will never face any lack in your life as promised in 2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
Prayer:
Loving Saviour, give me Your grace to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable in Your sight. Lead me in Your path and grant me the good things of life. I humble myself and exalt Your name O Lord.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
